  • Widening chrome wheels?

So, this goes back to my widening wheels thread i had, which i still have yet to do :

If i have wheels america widen out my chrome 2000 Cobra R wheels, will having them widened and the welding work affect the chrome finish on the rim? I couldnt care less about the inner barrel of the wheel where they are adding the materiel, just concerned the heat of the weld would damage the finish all the way out to the rim.

Would have to be stripped and then re-chromed after they did the welding. Cutting the wheel will make that chrome peel after a while. The places that stip chrome for us charge about $160 or so for s strip and re-chrome.

It's going to be much cheaper just to buy new wheels than to have those widened. Really the only time I see people spend that money is if there is no wider wheels available in that style, or if you're keeping the factory wheels and adding more meat.
