Ok so I was able to get the car timed where I think it should be. Before it was at like 26+ degrees advanced. The timing tab on this old 283 doesn't go.past 18 degrees. So I faniggled a few things and go her to idle and run at 10*.
The carb is a 1405 edelbrock. Viewing from the front, left (passenger side) vacuum port goes to the ac vents. Middle port goes to my pcv on passenger valve cover. And right (driver side) port goes to vacuum advance hei dizzy.
I took the carb off and gave it a cleaning. I found a vacuum leak on the old gasket, hence the reason I took it off. Replaced gasket. Buttoned all back up and got her running then timed. Sprayed all edges of the carb and intake with carb cleaner and found no leaks. Good. Now. I have the idle set at about 900. Vacuum gauge pulled a max of 12hg with the mix screws turned upward 1.75.
Problem areas are it crawls up to idle once stsrted. It feels sluggish when I rev it up. also, and most importantly, the dang rpms still drop substantially. Like down to about 4-500rpm.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
