Haven't done that yet. I found my scan tool. Cleared the codes and checked the LT fuel trim. It is within range.

With no load, it revs fine from ~2500 rpm. The is a stumble at idle

Sounds like you need some more of them cylinders.

Get a hei spark tester, looms like a spark plug with the end cut off. Check each cylinder with it for good consistent spark. If any have no spark or intermittent then suspect a weak coil. You can alsojust pull the wires off each plug while running (i use plastic hose clamp pliers), they should spark up to an inch or so from the end of the boot and be blue to bright white spark.

Check fuel pressure? Minus the pop you heard sounds like the pump might be taking a shit. When mine went out on my Silverado it did the exact same thing you are describing. Barely ran, no acceleration, but limped it home going about 50 but would die or stumble if I tried to accelerate any more than maybe 5 % throttle.

The clutch disks are garbage on those, I've seen a dozen or so just blow apart. Couple that with cruise control and 80+ mph speeds and it could have over revved and detonated, which melted the plugs. Your pedal could feel fine but if half the disk is missing it's not going to work very well.

Basically not allowing the power to be transferred to the wheels? Thats about how it feels.

I am on my 3rd or 4th fuel pump. These typically just quit. I plan to swap the filter/regulator at some point before it goes to a shop and see what happens.

It is taking everything in me to not put it on blocks in the garage and pull the motor and start the LS conversion

Sounds exactly like the Cavalier I used to have when it shit a coil for 1 & 4.

I thought coil as well, but its strange that 2 & 4, the plugs with no electrode, are on separate coils!

That is odd. Could possibly be the module. My understanding at the time was that the symptoms were very similar.

Check to see if the fuel pressure regulator is holding vacuum.

FPR is integrated into the fuel filter

Have you checked that the timing chain has not jumped? This motors were bad about the oil galley plug for the timing chain getting clogged and jumping due to lack of lubrication and wearing out the guides.

I just cranked it up to circulate fluids and keep the battery from dieing. If it jumped time, would it run rough at idle but still rev smooth? There is more noise in the front of the motor than it normally has. Makes me wonder if the timing chain tensioner might have let go
