I got an adjustable length pushrod that I use. Small block Ford ends. I install it and watch the roller on the end of the valve. I use calipers to measure it after I get it set. Then I get as close as I can to someone premade set.
I made one from a big block chevy push rod.
Cut it and tapped the inside. Put a pc of all thread in and walaaa.

Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.

Ok, I think I'm to the point of needing one now. Do I understand this process correctly?:
1. Put the gasket on
2. Put the heads on
3. Drop the length checking pushrod in
4. Color the top of the valve stem black with a sharpie
5. Put the roller rocker on
6. Turn engine over a few times
7. Remove rocker, & confirm it is riding on the center of the valve stem
8. Measure pushrod checking tool
9. Order pushrods
Correct? How tight do I bolt the heads down to do this check? I need to check PTV as well...
between 6 and 7 you have to adjust the pushrod length to get the roller to ride in the center of the valve stem. You should have already checked the pv before you did the final assembly and any balancing.
