As for lowering, the best option IMO would be new rear coil springs with adjustable upper control arms to maintain the pinion angle and a set of drop spindles up front. This will maintain all your stock geometry.
Cheap route, cut 1/2 to 1 coil off the front springs and buy new rears. The rear coil springs are tapered at each end so you can't cut those safely.

Not sure if you're still inquiring about drivetrain opinions, but here's mine.
If it runs okay, don't change a damned thing. Having something running and reliable is far better than a bloated, expensive project. "IMO"When the government pays, the government controls.
