I'd get a small converter to take care of the surge at idle, and something else for wheels, drop it and roll. You wont keep it long enough to worry about an engine swap.

And get rid of that hideous floor shifter.

Ok cool good call. Now, as for the column shift. How does that work if it's not the original trans? I prefer it be column.

I think it will bolt right up.

If you cant get it to work, something like this would at least be a little more classy.

Hm... I had that shifter on my 83 f100. Loved it. I might go that route because I can only assume that there is some gaudy hole in my floorboard now with this retarded bm shifter.

also, ur recommendations on the torque converter? Unknown what's in there now. I assume stock for that 700r4.

Hopefully someone who has more knowledge of converters can step in on that one, I am not well learned on that end.

Find a factory console shifter and get the conversion kit.

That shifter is cable operated, so it shouldn't be too big of a hole. But then again, the PO did say it had a 2bbl, right? I might be scared to look.

Guy wants to trade for my wheels. Plus cash on his end. First, these look decent? And what should I ask for in cash?

Don't get those. They are the ugliest rallies Chevy made IMO.

In an odd chain of events I met the previous previous owner. He responded to my add about those wheels on CL... He said he's the one that originally installed em. So I asked him what trannys in the car. Test em. He said a 700r4. Ok, and motor? 283. Ok good enough. He tells me that the trans has a 2500rpm (?) Converter if he memory serves him right. He said the motor was rebuilt when he had it. Had a small cam installed. Cost him 3500 to rebuild it. Hm.. anyways he wants to buy the wheels back or trade me plus cash for the original 14" white painted wheels (unknown condition at this time. Pics coming tonight) or a set of 17" that are on a 72 chevelle he has. Again, unknown condition.

He's doesn't recall the size of cam and wasn't 100% on the converter being a 2500. Regardless, what converter should I buy to install?

I would stay around a 2k stall depending on rear gear and cam combo. Too much converter and not enough gear will heat up the trans something fierce.

I'd avoid the stock steelies unless they're chrome reverse and really wide. Check into the 17's, I have a buddy in Kansas selling some REALLY nice 20's off an S10.

factory wheels will be 14 inch so they won't fit over disc brakes if you ever wanted them you will need New wheels again.
