  • 351w swap - F4TE still the way to go?

Looking around at sourcing a short block... read a few older threads. I'm looking to get up to around 700hp. It's a street car btw.

Planning on using my AFR 185 #1420's, Systemax II, and my S-trim.

This will be an extended build lol, just want to start piecing it together as I go.

Where do I source an F4TE block at? (Assuming that's the suggested way to go...)

do you have a 351 now?

If not id just do a 302 dart based block.

nope sure dont. Dart Blocks are too dang expensive! I'm married now!

From what I see those blocks are ~$2200+...

Woody at ford strokers has been having issues with a lot of f4te blocks cracking behind the cam bearings. These are motors that were in normal service, not raced.

So if you get one pop the cam bearings out and check the block for hairline cracks.

That being said... Dart shp 8.2 is $1800 and worth every fuckin penny. To have someone fill it full of good shit will set you back about 5-5500 overall.

FYI 185cc heads on a blown 351 is leaving a shit load on the table to be gained.

Sell those and get something 210+

There is no such thing as a high powered budget small block ford, as sooner you accept that, the better off you'll be.

351s are nice, but if you want a fuel injection set up, outside of finding a nice gt40 upper/lower from a lighting for $650, there's not much else other then a systemax which (correct me if I'm wrong) uses a stock lower with a smax upper because if I recall correctly the match up, I know he 302 truck lowers do for sure.

And if you want a super Vic or something equally as badass, the set up with injectors and all is over $1000. And that's just an intake.. Going from a 302 to a 351 isnt really cheap if you're trying to be impressive in 2014.

Lol, with 300whp I've came within 6tenths of your blown coyotes times, congratulations. On a shitty pass at that.

I agree but nothing beats a good running ford, it just costs double to get there.

Save your money and buy a good block.
Stock 351w don't like 1000hp being thrown at it. Mine cracked down every main cap and it was about to split in half at 700hp you'll be fine.
185 heads would be fine. If you had a turbo.

                            I don't understand this one....

I'm thinking I can do a 351w swap, be around 700hp, and take on damn near anything I encounter on the street. I don't run it at the track. It's just my weekend toy. Im tired of worrying about the 500hp limit on the stock 302 block, but don't want to spend $5k to get past it.

You don't need huge heads for turbo car. I made 1000hp with my old set up and it had out the box trick flow twisted wedge heads.
