  • Smog pump question(s)

    Same damn 94 s10 blazer 4.3 "W" code CPI auto 2wd.

If I sit at a light idling for more than a minute or so, when I take off, I hear a loud deep whining sound coming from the front drivers side under the hood. I have been told this is the smog pump. A lot of the time, it sounds like it's running at a higher rpm than the motor. And I often confuse it for the sound of the motor, it's that damn loud. Also, during these "episodes", there is a severe loss of power until the thing quits doing what it's doing.

Is this normal? Is it a sign this pos is about to crap out on me? It makes driving around town a total pain in the ass.

And it is throwing ZERO codes.

    I really miss my Ford......

Bypass it and throw it away.

Depending on how it's positioned, you may be able to bypass it using a shorter belt, leaving the pump where it is. Then if you ever need it to pass smog, just throw the factory belt back on.

It'll lockup on you one day, their cheap, about 50.00, replace it before your stuck on the side of the road with a burnt up belt.
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.

And just where exactly would i find one? Autozone/Oreillys is a no-go, as well as Partsgeek and Rockauto.
