  • Honda Civic Immobilizer or key??

    2002 Civic won't start, no spark but fuel pump runs. I do not get the green key symbol to flash at all.

    I would assume that if the key was bad it would flash repeatedly. I already did the troubleshooting and the immoblizer is getting its power and grounds. Talked to the stealership and they said to reprogram the key. I have to special order the part and get the car towed to reprogram if its the immobilizer.

    Key or Immobilizer?

      I just went through this bullshit with my prelude. If you're not getting that green key to light up, then the bulb is probably burned out. If it's not recognizing the key, or if there is a problem with the system, it should be flashing at you.

      One thing to try before you do anything is to remove any metal keys that you might have on the same ring, they tend to get pissy.

        Replaced the crank sensor just to make sure. No cel codes. Same keys for many many years. Also replaced the bulb for the green key symbol.

          Ok, when you key it on, does the check engine light come on, then go off after the main relay clicks? Have you checked all ECM fuses? If the light isn't coming on, either the immobilizer or the ECU is bad/not getting power or grounds.

          The key isn't going to cause this issue, that light comes directly off from the immobilizer unit, which gets it's power from either the ECU or the ECU fuses. I hate that immobilizer system with a fucking passion.

          Check for injector pulse with a noid light, that is fed directly off from the ECU, should tell you if the ECU is powered and good.

            It was the immobilizer control unit. Fixed.
