  • Cobra intake question

I'm currently in the progress of building a new motor. My new build im going with a 302 with trick flow heads and trick flow stage 1 cam. My question is will my cobra intake work okay with these heads. I also thought about going with the gt40x, but I know the trickflow are overall a better head.

I say go with a Custom fti cam, afr heads and a systemax or Eldelbrock rpm 2 intake.

The tfs heads are okay but the Intakes and cams seem lackluster to me.

If you have 5k and don't mind race gas, lol

    Worked afr 165s
    256/265 609/624 @ 108 camshaft
Super Vic or victor efi 5.0
    Solid lifters
    Pop up pistons 13.8:1

Should make around 400-420whp and spin to around 7800rpm.

      Will it work? Yes

      Is it the best? Nope

I'd run the spyder intake, custom solid roller billet cam and shave the heads.

Would love to go with afr heads. Im on a $3500 budget, and got a baby on the way. Im coming from a stock 302 with e7 heads im sure anything i do will be a upgrade. Just trying to find a good setup for the money.

For 3500, don't blow it on one of those janky top end kits, you'll be good to make 280whp. I made 40whp more then trick flow top end kits with a measly $1200 in used parts.

Don't get a catalog cold on those kits.

A gt40 headed car with a cobra Intake and a good cam will outperform those kits.

And break the block. For that kinda coin he can build a budget 347 that will make more power and tq and not break the block.

To answer your question yes the cobra intake will work just fine .

You think I should go with a set of gt40x heads and a letter cam instead?

No. Letter cams are not "good" cams, they do sound good though.

Get your mind set on heads and intake and give these guys a shout, spend your money where it matters, the camshaft.

Yes it's $750 but it comes with good springs and 1 peice pushrods.

Another guy to look into and seek questions regarding camshafts would be Ed Curtis on the Corral.

This is a good cam for a mild 302 set up, it would work great with gt40 heads and intake. It's very similar to the Anderson b25, a Anderson n21 wouldn't be a bad choice either.

Ed Curtis and FlowTech Induction are one in the same.

Well a Anderson b25 on that set up will make 297whp and 330 trq iirc. So around that.

7800 rpms in a stock block will not last past the first hit.
