  • No one makes 2000 Cobra R wheels any more, do they?

Just curious looking around, but it looks like no one makes Cobra R wheels any more.

I have a spare cobra r wheel that has been repaired, and have been considering widening them out to 10 or 10.5 inches, but I am not sure I will have enough room against the tailpipes, or that getting them widened wouldnt damage the chrome finish on the face. I could care less about the chrome on the barrel of the wheel, but I can only trust it wont ruin the face.

I can fit MT 275/50/15s on a Weld 15x10 6.5 inch backspacing (i think) wheel with no issues after i "clearanced" the tailpipes slightly.

I could go with a spacer, but I am trying to keep my costs down, so a spacer that wouldnt require me to buy new longer wheel studs would be ideal. It starts to get expensive.

500 for two wheels to be widened
40 for tires to be mounted and balanced
    75ish for the spacer
    60ish for the wheel studs
    200-300 to install studs.

A lot of coin just to widen the stance a little!

You are grossly over estimating wheel stud install.

50.00 at most if you pulled the axles. If you have a friend with a cheap hf press you could do it for free. Hammer the old ones out and press in the new. You can do it with out a press as well but risk hurting the stud.

I wish y2k rs would have been more popular but the just dont fit on alot of cars like the bullets or regular r's.

      I is confused.

By all the parts you listed, you're not wanting a "shim" wheel spacer - that's good. They tend to shear important things, like lug studs.

So since you want to use real hubcentric wheel spacers, just get a pair. Here's a full set for $100: ebay link

These bolt onto your car using your stock lug nuts. Then they have a set of studs that you use to bolt the wheels on. Easy. Just get the width that you need and make sure the bolt patterns are right.
When the government pays, the government controls.

That's exactly what I used for the rears on mine. Doesn't look as good from the rear of the car as wider wheels would, but work for the more aggressive stance, especially given the cost.

bolt on wheel spacers are not ideal...however, you can take those same spacers, knock out the studs and use them as regular hubcentric spacers. I use them on my race car.

I also suggest using the ARP studs over the Moroso studs. 3rdly, you can install the studs without remove any axles or hubs with a simple threaded puller available for $30. I have used mine on 100's of studs and have had ZERO problems. Saves a lot of time but you may have to grind part of the head to clear the rear ABS ring. Not a big issue actually. on GT rear brakes, you sometimes have to clearance the brake mounting bracket but if you want to pay $300 plus the parts, I'll gladly do it!

Sorry about the slow response. Been busy as shit lately.

From speaking with Mike up at Maximum Motorsports, they use spacers on their racecars all the time. They do not recommend using a bolt-on spacer. I have 2 that would work perfectly, if thats the case, that i use to give me more clearance when i run skinnies up front on Pro-Stars. Skinnies on the front dont put nearly the same kind of stress as having wide, sticky rear tires would have.

I might already have moroso studs on the rear axle anyway, i just need to go through old HPP invoices to confirm work done on the rear end.

I hope I am also overthinking this whole thing. I have 295/30/18 Nitto Invos on 18x9.5 (18x9) 2000 Cobra R replicas now, and they do bow slightly around to fit around the narrower wheel. Discount tire refused to put on the new tires until i get wider rims, which I would say I would need to really get them to fit as they should.

Since I have 295mm tires on it now with no issues, I would hope widening to 10 inch or 10.5 inch wide wheels wouldnt cause me problems, but I am not sure.

I was just quoting Gearheads when talking about the stud R&R job. The rear end doesnt have ABS Rings, so the car has no rear ABS. Speaking of, can i put back in my fuse for ABS with only the two front sensors? I figured it was all or none, as the system would freak out.
