Anyone here have a Fusion with Electric assist Fault?

I have a 2010 fusion 2.5L and last week ive lost complete power steering. It has the electric power steering assist. Just wondering if anyone has a fusion and has experiences this problem? Ive been reading a lot places average cost from a dealer to fix is about 1600-1900 bucks. Thinking of buying a low mileage used one and putting it in myself? Any thoughs?
