  • Caterpillar 3406e ECM wont turn fan on

I found out the pin for the fan its bad in the ECM. So i was looking at a adjustable fan controllers. I can get that to work but it also needs to control
    the A/C.
my A/C switch is normal closed. the factory ECM is set to run for 90 seconds when triggered at 218 degree eng. temp or the high pressure switch.
i was thinking of running the fan controller for temp but cant find
a timmer switch for the A/C. anyone have any sugestions?

Why not just have the ECM re-flashed?

Are you 100% sure? Cat ECMs are pretty damn good reliability wise. They do drop code every so often.

The computer read 230% and showed the fan

Instead of rigging it, I'd get it fixed properly. Once you start fucking wires and circuitry, especially ECM related, shit can get screwy quick. If the customer doesn't want to replace theirs when it goes bad we send them out to get fixed. I'll find out where we send them, I can't recall the name of the place right now.

                    I agree 100%

But I also know cat ECMs are fucking insanely over priced.

Just wondering. There is a local (to dfw) guy that does some pretty interesting tuning on CATs.

I don't think that'll be an issue. I remembered the name of the place, it's called Truck ECM. you might call him and ask what it'll take to fix it, and if it'll have to be reflashed. Best I recall we've never had to flash one after getting it back from him.

Question: why do you have it turned up so high? That HAS to be killing mileage.

Curt used to do PDI's tuning but they were
taking to big of a cut. So he went on his own
I gained about .75 mpg with his tune. So its payed
                              for itself
