  • Has anyone ever seen a silver colored a/c stop leak or oil?

Got a cavalier from the auction with a non functional A/C system. Pulled the orifice tube and it was completely clogged with the silver colored shit that looked like radiator stop leak. I figured that the old A/C compressor shelled and it clogged it up, but now I'm not so sure. I flushed the condenser out and my hand was right next to where the flush came out, when it was done, I looked like the freaking tin man. My whole hand was spray painted silver, and upon further inspection, the whole damned system has this shit in it.

I've googled around and I can't find anything that matches this, just seeing if the gurus on here have heard of this.

Obviously the play here is to flush everything, change the accumulator and go from there, but I would like to know just WTF this is.

Likely internal compressor failure. I've had many that came out with fine silver particles similar to metal flake. Depending on the style of condenser, it likely won't all flush out. I would strongly recommend a new condenser, accumulator, compressor, and orifice. Flush the lines and evaporator with an approved a/c flush and purge the evaporator for at least 30 minutes with 40-60 psi air to completely evaporate the flush. If the high side line from the compressor to the condenser has any muffler/filters built into it, it's recommended you replace it as well as it will trap particles that won't effectively flush and contaminate your new system.

That is usually what I see, and there was definitely some flake in it, but what came out flowed like paint. I've seen many a compressor failure, but I've never seen this.

Please, I rarely have a cavalier longer than a week and I guarantee that I can note it out for a good profit.
