  • 99-04 Third Brake Light Fading

I have a 99 mustang and the third brake light is completely faded over and makes my car look like garbage. I was wondering if there is anything that could solve this problem. I don't want a L.E.D third brake light. I'd like to stick with Ford Motorcraft. Also don't want to spend $200 on a new one.

Get a 3M refinishing kit from a parts store. It's easy as hell and will only cost you $20. I used one on my '99 and it looked almost new. If I would have wanted to spend some more time on it I'm sure I could have got it looking even better. It was VERY badly oxidized, too.

Dependent on the severity of the oxidation, Meguiars Plast-X works wonders. If its really bad you may have to go at it with a couple diff grades of polishing compound first.

I didn't think I would like the LED light either, but I gave it a shot and I actually like it.

Sand it down, spray with Duplicolor red "metalcast" and clear coat. $14 investment
