  • 5.0 lower intake gasket install.

I'm getting a oil leak at the rear of the lower intake on the rear valley rail on my 94 cobra. I used a thick bead of silicone front to back all the time but these last 2 times I'm getting a oil leak. What intake gaskets do you guy recommend and should I use the rubber ends that come in the gasket kit since my beads seem to not seal properly. For what it's worth I have a s-trim on this car that I just installed.

No gaskets needed for the block ridge to seal up.

You need to get intake studs, or if you're cheap get a set of carb studs from the parts store and put one on corners, I prefer the 2nd to the outside edge bolt hole.

Put a thick bead all along the ridge, any where it's flat it needs silicone. Let the silicone form a "skin" takes about 10-15minutes. From there lower the intake on with the studs to keep it from shifting around.

Do your torque sequence properly. I do 7lbs, 13lbs and finish off with 18lbs on the last go around. And go back and redue them every 10-15minutes afterwards 3 to 4times, just a quick bump with the torque wrench or just to make for sure they're still snug with a ratchet. That insures the gasket and silicone are compressed and you'll have a good tight seal.

Since you are running boost, make for sure your crank case isn't pressurized. If it is, you'll need a vacuum pump or figure out why you have excess blow by.

Best trick to get a lower intake perfectly aligned it steal some TB studs from a fox intake and srew them into the heads. They act as guides.

What sealant are you using and what cleaning products?

Carb studs work too! And those tb studs get all rusty ..

We'll I just got some carb studs. The sealant I was using is Ford 7.3 diesel grey silicone, and industrial brake clean to prep. 7.3 silicone is known to be very strong. I want to say I've always had a leak back there ever since I did a head swap in 2007. Changed to a ported lower gt40 intake in 2009. It leaks right in the back driver side corner were the intake, block and head all meet. Went boosted this past march.

All seems well on your part, I would be curious if the lower doesn't have a hairline crack in it.
