Ford OEM warranty work gets OEM parts. Aftermarket warranty and Customer Pay get whatever the aftermarket warranty authorizes (typically not OEM parts unless newer and lack of aftermarket) or the customer is willing to spend.Originally posted by PGreenCobraI can't get over the fact that you get to go live the rest of your life, knowing that someone made a Halloween costume out of you. Had a fender bender in my 2003 Lightning....other guy's fault. No major damage, but I told my body shop I wanted a Genuine Ford fender, even if used , but had to be insurance perfect. The Farmers Ins adjuster would not pay the $ 90.00 difference in a new Ford fender and a new Taiwan Tommy fender. We could not find a good used on at the time. I told him, "Pay the $ 90.00 for the Ford fender or I want the rent car for the 6 days at $ 75.00 per day". And, I think I may want to go have my nexk checked and I want a NEW Lightning wheel. He wrote me a check for $ 300.00 and said, "You work it out with your body shop." We did, and I got a NEW Ford fender. Yes, there IS A DIFFERENCE !

I work in parts at a Ford dealer. Everything Motorcraft is made to Ford specifications by aftermarket companies. It's always been that way. Motorcraft oil is Castrol, MC spark plugs are made by AutoLite. Etc and so forth. Stuff like alternators are remanned OEM parts, remanned by a Ford authorized vendor. The biggest difference between MC parts and aftermarket is the warranty. If you have an MC part installed by a Ford dealer and the part malfunctions, the part....labor....and tow, are warrantied. If the Ford dealer installs an aftermarket part at your request, it has the 90 day warranty for defect through the vendor and thats it. So yeah, you can save $150 by buying a cardone water pump, but let me know how that $200 tow.....$200 in labor, and another $250 in parts goes 6 months later when that pump craps out.
