  • JB weld for thread sealant?

So I fucked up this afternoon. I was drilling a hole in my turbo compressor so I could put in a hose barb for my wastegates. I bought a 1/8 NPT tap which called for a 11/32" hole. Got the hole drilled and tapped but noticed the fitting screwed in pretty easily compared to most other NPT fittings.

This is when I noticed that I grabbed the wrong fucking bit. I used a 3/8 bit instead of the 11/32. Now I'm paranoid that the missing 1/32 of material will cause it to fail over time.

I'm thinking since this is just a hose barb that will never need to come out, would I be safe to coat the threads in JB Weld? That way it will just bond together permanently. It says it's good for 400 degree constant temps and 500 degree intermittently. I can't imagine the compressor side gets that hot and I never plan on tracking the car where it will be under constant boost long enough to really heat up the housing.

or a 3/8th fitting. This is an easy problem to solve without "presidential solutions."

That would be even worse than using JB weld...

Go to 1/4" FIP size Probably could tap 1/4 inch in the hole you have now, or drill to proper size for 1/4 inch tap.
