  • Help me win an arguement!

As you all know I just put 4:56 gears in my car. My Dad says that if I were ( hypothetically) supercharge my engine, lets say 150hp gain, that I would get better results if I kept 4:56's, while I say you would need to swap to 3:73's or lower. I'm pretty sure I'm right, but why am I right? Will a 450hp supercharged car run better times with 4:56's, or will It run better times with a lesser gear?

Will you be running 1/8 or 1/4 mostly? How tall of a tire will you be using? How many RPMs do you want to turn the car through the traps? Do you care about gas mileage? These are just few of the things to consider.

Depends on traction and the length of the track.

Run as much gear as you can reasonably can without running out of rpms at the mph you ant to achieve. Simple but complicated.

That's what I would say with a pushrod motor. 4.10 or 4.30 with a mod motor.

25" tire. gas mileage doesnt matter. Does a 450hp 4:56 car, beat an identical 450hp > 4:56 car in both 1/8 and 1/4 ? I worded my arguement alot like Josh.0.

The goal is to be just under red line( the point at which your motor is at peak performance determined on a dyno) when crossing the traps. Tune the gears to the motor to reach this. There are too many variables to answer your question. If the car has enough engine (rpms) to support the 4.56 gears and not have to let off then I would say the 4.56 geared car would win.

The 4.56 geared car will get to its powerband quicker.

Alright. How about on my 260rwhp cobra. If I supercharged it, what would be best?

What RPM do you feel comfortable turning to? What RPM does your motor stop making power at?

If you have to let off because of hitting red line or you feel your car nose over because you are past the power band... than you have too much gear. If neither of these are true... go lower (numerically higher).

Are you having trouble with wheel speed ( I E having traction problems).

Easiest way to win the argument:

"Dad, we will do the testing. All you need to do is buy a supercharger for my car and pay to have it installed and tuned.

We will do baseline runs before the supercharger, then after it is installed and tuned."

                              Viola !!!

Even if you lose the argument you still win !!
