As you all know I just put 4:56 gears in my car. My Dad says that if I were ( hypothetically) supercharge my engine, lets say 150hp gain, that I would get better results if I kept 4:56's, while I say you would need to swap to 3:73's or lower. I'm pretty sure I'm right, but why am I right? Will a 450hp supercharged car run better times with 4:56's, or will It run better times with a lesser gear?

The goal is to be just under red line( the point at which your motor is at peak performance determined on a dyno) when crossing the traps. Tune the gears to the motor to reach this. There are too many variables to answer your question. If the car has enough engine (rpms) to support the 4.56 gears and not have to let off then I would say the 4.56 geared car would win.

If you have to let off because of hitting red line or you feel your car nose over because you are past the power band... than you have too much gear. If neither of these are true... go lower (numerically higher).
Are you having trouble with wheel speed ( I E having traction problems).Last edited by mustangguy289; 01-30-2011, 09:00 PM.

Easiest way to win the argument:
"Dad, we will do the testing. All you need to do is buy a supercharger for my car and pay to have it installed and tuned.
We will do baseline runs before the supercharger, then after it is installed and tuned."
Viola !!!
Even if you lose the argument you still win !!
