  • Flywheel question

I'm doing the 5 speed swap in my 66 and am looking for flywheel information.

    1) Cast or Billet? Whats the power limit of cast?

    2) Is it safe to re-balance a stock 5.0 flywheel (50oz to 28oz)

    I have to have a 157 tooth 28oz balance 10.5"

Billet weighs more, cast usually develops cracks after a while, how many rpm? How about aluminium?

I would spend a few extra bucks and get either a billet steel or aluminum. Yes you can have a 50 oz rebalanced to a 28. I had on one my old 347 setup just make sure to take the balancer and flywheel with the crank and have it all balanced together.

        My 69 has a fox 50oz flywheel re-balanced to 28oz.

let me expand on this: I had Wells Racing do the rebalance, and they requested I bring the factory flywheel to match the balance. They did a good job, and IIRC, it was around 75 bucks. Ive since used Arlington Machine, and they were about half that price for the same job.
