  • Looking for a mechanic

Any mechanics in fort worth, Texas area. My 88 5.0 is tired and time to be rebuilt or replaced. I don't have much knowledge on rebuilding motors. I was thinking of getting a 306 crate motor they have on american muscle. Maybe be cheaper to get this motor rebuilt and add gt40 heads and a cam. Any advice would be appreciated!

Just pick-up up one Of 50resto's shortblocks and add HCI.

I thought of doing that but I've never built a motor before.

can you remember lefty loosie, righty tighty, and read a tq wrench?

If so you can put heads and intakes on. It helps if you have someone who has done a few for tips, but it really is easy.

I have no problems doing that lol. What I'm more worried about is doing the push rods and rocker arms. I plan on putting aftermarket heads and cam on the motor.

True. I'm thinking of going with gt40 heads and a ford 303 cam. Just haven't decided on which one yet

You'll also need a GT40 (or compatible) intake and other odds/ends. IMO, you'd be better off buying a Twisted Wedge kit or the Edlebrock Performer RPM kit. They're no-nonsense kits and both will make 300whp.
