(92 LX) Is a 4 cylinder a decent car to start with?

I found a nice 92 LX 4 cyl for 3000, but wanted some input from those that have turned 4 cylinder cars into V8s, etc. Are these good cars to start with or do they turn into more trouble than it's worth?

If your going for a huge power car where everything will be changed anyway. Why not go for it.

Not too bad. Already has some upgrades too.

For that particular car... I wouldn't pay more than $1500-2000, depending on if the AC worked.
