  • 2013 5.0 upgrades and ideas

I'm looking to do some bang for buck upgrades on my 5.0. I'm thinking the old standbys, a filter kit with tuner, Flowmaster axle back, aluminum driveshaft, perhaps a shifter. I'm also wondering what size tires you are able to cram onto the 18" factory wheels, since I might need to change the speed rating, even though you generally want skinnier tires where I'm headed. In short, the end goal is this: Finally after 3 years of talking about it, going to Bonneville and getting into the 130mph Club this summer.

I'll also need a helmet for this big noggin and a driveshaft safety loop. I haven't read the rules in awhile, so that's off the top of my head. What cold air kits and tuners are seeing the best gains these days? I haven't modded a car in a long time, or really ever looked into upgrading this thing since I've been pretty satisfied with 420 horsepower on the street, especially with the pizza cutter tires it came with. Hell, maybe I should just throw some 373's and fat tires on it. First gear is already almost useless anyway. Thoughts?

Hell, maybe I should have posted this in the build section.

Check out Vorshlag. They are local and have been developing/testing some neat stuff for the s197. They could probably give you some decent advice for what you at wanting to do.

I love my mgw shifter and magnaflow cat back. The borla are too loud imo.
With steed intake, boss manifold, cat back and tune I put down 424whl and 375ish tq.

Mine made 410 with a cai and a canned VMP tune, 435 with long tubes. Get the MGW shifter, don't even entertain the thought of any of the others (Barton included, none of them have the same feel as the MGW).

Flowmasters, IMHO, do not sound good on these cars. It's all subjective though. I have a completely stock system on there now, cats and all, running through Pypes muffler deletes, and it sounds nice and deep, and gets almost zero drone at any speed now.

Axle Exchange is still one of the best bangs for the buck for aluminum drive shafts, but they still aren't cheap. If you're going to do the Salt Flats, I'd get loops for the front and rear too.

Might think about dropping down to 3.55's too. A little better mileage, and near perfect gearing for pulling in the upper revs.

Yeah, I've heard about the MGW shifter. Hadn't heard of Axle Exchange, I'll check them out. As for the gears, the car doesn't get driven a whole hell of a lot. If I hadn't done all the road trips it would probably have about 10k on it after a year and a half of ownership. 331s to 355s is just too small of an increase for me to drop the money on.

Please do not strap those turds under your car. Borlas are loud without cats, but if you have cats it definitely quiets them down a bunch. Magnaflows belong on trucks...they just have that sound to them.

I dont know. I like the way my magnaflows sound. All the other exhaust were too loud for me. I dont like waking up neighborhoods and drawing attention

A 100 shot on top of the Kenne Bell really woke mine up.

Thought you posted you were gonna sell it. This is a helluva better idea. A window full of DFWMUSTANGS stickers on top of stated mods should get you the power you seek.

                            PS. Pit crew, extra drivers?

MGW shifter fosho. Very solid and shifts smooth. Shorten the throw is easy by just turning the knob.
