  • to spool or not to spool

Now that ive decided that im going with strange axles. The next question is spool.

Ive never drove a car with one. We are only talking a 500-600hp weekend car. The last limited slip i had was a eaton with the carbon fiber disk. It worked well but never saw any track time.

How much power can the cobra 31 spline diffs take?

Car will be on a trans brake as well.

If it is a track only car, then go spool. If you intend to do much street driving, then posi. Pretty much that simple. A spool is lighter than a posi by about 8 lbs or so and as long as both tires are evenly matched and the ARB is set correctly, the car should go straight all the time. Spools are a bit$h around turns and to push in a turn.

The p-trac unit's weak point will be at the drop of the transbrake. This is when they usually fire one tire. If it does work at your power level, you will most likely have to maintain the clutches

I have driven on the street with a few cars with spools and even a welded up diff. It's not that big of a deal. Unless the car is 99% street, throw a spool in it.

Sent from my Note 3, excuse the typos.......

I think imj ust going to throw a spool in it. If i hate it ill take it out.

It will be under a 1000 miles a year street driving.
