I'm surprised there hasnt been a bigger market for this sort of thing. Its amusing to me to see the old clunky code readers still in use given how advance smartphones are.

They are somewhat slow compared to a handheld, and the apps that I downloaded were not user friendly at all. They were marketed to the home garage guy that might use it once or twice.

I have two bluetooth adapters and tried two different "free apps" that would show you code #'s but you had to buy the upgrade to see the name or info on it, and of course you had to pay for the upgrade to clear it.

From what I can tell, the adapter that you stick in the obd port makes little/no difference, its just sends the signals. The app is the difference. I used both interchangeably.

I've been using Torque Pro + ebay bluetooth adapter for years now. It's probably the most elaborate and extensive app on the market. And the developer is constantly issuing updates and will usually take the time to respond to personal emails.



It can use the GPS to provide tracker logs with OBD engine logging so you can see what you were doing at any point in time

My bt adapter came in yesterday and I just got the chance to mess with it this morning and it's too freakin cool. I was able to see what triggered the sporadic MIL, plus the real-time readout of all the various sensors, it's total nerdgasm neato.
