  • so i got a 12 valve.. ?s

Everything seems to be stock. Definitely not a speed demon. Lol. Anyone know how to advance the timing, and help do the free mods on it? Im mechanically inclined just haven't messed much with cummins or diesels in general.

Btw its a 95 dodge 2500 automatic, got it for 2k with 185k miles.. but you never know if someone changed the cluster.

I can tell you if you turn the power up too much, the transmission will hate you for it without some upgrading. Cooter should be able to give you a few recommendations on adding power.

There are tons of how-to's on the 12v. Grind the plate. But as stated, that auto was factory weak, so be cautious.

      Is it a reg cab?

Even with the engine in stock form that transmission is a total heap. Unless you plan on doing a nv4500 swap soon, or upgrading the auto, then keep it pretty low. Fuel plate mod is super easy and free. Straight pipe and a decent intake are well worth the effort too. Avoid k&n drop-in filters like the plague.

It is a single cab, so far all i have done is some 3rd gen wheels. been reading up on some bhaf or something like that .. some big ass air filter. Anyway. Its fairly cheap so ill pick that up. 4-5" exhaust is pretty cheap on ebay too. Im fairly interested in advancing the timing tho.. just don't wanna buy the tools if someone has em and wants to make a little cash with them haha.. the auto trans are't any good stock but will be torn apart and rebuilt. Gonna do a tranago kit and a tq converter when it starts acting up.

Well shit, all you need now is some white Oakley Gascans.

I've got a homebuilt intake if you're interested, It uses a K&N filter from a late 90's vortech chevy. It's a large cylinder type filter that clamps to an aluminum mandrel bend 4" and then goes to a 4" 90 degree coupler to the turbo. There's no heat shield or mounting bracket, it floats in the same area the stock aibox is in now. A piece of bent flat strap would make a good support brace.

$110 shipped, pm if interested, it will fit 94-2002.

Stock exhaust with a muffler and converter delete usually have a nasty bark to them especially when loaded. I like the 4 inch with muffler on my 2000. The common rails with no muffler are nasty sounding, there's several that come by daily loaded down. They are always laying into the throttle to pull the overpass just south of me.

I would recommend the Transgo kit prior to having any problems. You can install most all of the kit with the trans still in the truck, the valve body will need to be removed. Follow the instructions closely, if the RH trans is like the RE there is one part of the directions specifically that if you don't pay attention will have you drilling a hole in the wrong separator plate.

I would just pay a shop to do the timing. It's painfully tedious. I have the tools. They're on loan, and I wouldn't care if I never get them back! LOL

The only way I'll time them anymore is to pull the front cover. Which is the perfect time to do the KDP.

You can time them without pulling the cover, but every now and then you'll have one fight you and you end up pulling the cover.

If you think you want to keep the truck for a good while and want to learn more, buy the timing kit. You canalways sell it later.

Greatest engine ever to be factory installed in a passenger vehicle IMO
