  • 8.8 rebuild needed

The pinion bearing sounds like its toast on my 2007 GT/CS. Put it on my neighbors lift and with a stethoscope isolated where the noise is coming from, the front of the housing. Recommendations, or anyone to avoid?
Looking for a rebuild better than stock with extra clutches and a few people I have talked to recommend that I ditch the crush sleeve and go with a solid pinion spacer. The car has a TVS2300 and made a little over 500 to the wheels at HPP a couple years ago, but only has 63,000 miles so I'm surprised the bearing went already.

Nothing wrong with using the crush sleeve for your power level on the 8.8. Your car came stock with 31 spline axles, but the differential leaves a lot to be desired. I'd go with an Eaton diff, stock axles if you want to save some cash (or go aftermarket axles if you want something a little stronger). Are you keeping the stock ring and pinion? If so, chances are they will make a little noise after the rebuild as the wear pattern may not be the same.

Also, this would be a good time to replace axle seals, carrier bearings, pinion seal, pinion bearing. An aluminum one piece driveshaft wouldn't hurt either

It does have a one piece aluminum driveshaft. I definitely agree, while its apart go ahead and rebuild the whole thing, all new bearings and seals. I do plan on using the original 3.55ring and pinion. Good point that is might make a little more noise due to wear pattern, I hadn't thought of that. If it does I don't think it will be a big deal for me so I don't have to write a bigger check for new gears. If I can get a hold of someone at GearHeads I was thinking that might be the place to go.

NNNNOOOO! I would never do business with gearheads. Call Josh at JKS Performance. He has an amazing respect for his customers and their cars. He does very quality work, not just slamming cars in and out to collect a paycheck.

I called Simple Quick Racing in Benbrook near where I live because I have heard good things about him but he is busy for a while.

Most performance shops right now are pretty slammed coming up to race season.

Interesting that when I bought the rebuild kit from Late Model that is says it uses a GT500 pinion bearing as an upgrade. Maybe that is what I had an issue with. Will find out once it is torn down.
