About to pull the trigger on one with v10 motor 150k on the odometer what do I need to look for on these, the good the bad? TIA
I would go beat the fuck out of all of them within an inch of their life, then fuck their chihuahua while they watch as they get loaded into the ambulance

They're big and comfy. The v10s get shit for fuel mileage and I haven't heard too many great things about their reliability. Get the 7.3l powerchoke. It's well worth it

There's a whole lot of V10 excursions out there with 200k plus on them. If you dont mind single digit mpg's, they arent too bad. The later 3v's were better. They are half the price of the 7.3's, but resale sucks on the gasser compared to the oil burners.

I had one with the V10 and I loved it. No issues besides fuel mileage wasn't too bad really I got 12-14 most of the time

Hell, that's what I get on my Suburban with the 5.3. I avoided the gas Excursion because I thought that the Suburban would get better mileage.

And I really had no need to spend $10k more for a diesel (don't expect to need to tow / haul heavy loads).

X2. We had a 2000 Limited. Got rid of it at 280k

The only thing that's been done to our 7.3l is intake, exhaust, tune, and a larger trans cooler (from 6.0l). It gets great fuel mileage and has been absolutely 100% problem free for the last 108k miles (bought it in '04 with 80k, has 188k now). We've never replaced anything on it besides regular wear items. Plus, it's nice being able to pass someone climbing a decent grade with a boat behind you.

I had a 99 F350 with a 7.3 for a year or so and the only issue I had was with the fuel / water separator. The O rings were apparently adversely affected by the low sulfur diesel. It was dumping fuel all over.

It had trouble starting in the cold as well, but I have found out later that it was likely just a simple fix.

Excuse me, I forgot about that. It has been problem free besides that fuel O-ring from the low sulfur trash. Red diesel, what?
