Has anyone here had any experience rebuilding one of these yet? I managed to burn up #2 and possibly #7 after some hard pulls on my tuned/deleted 6.4. I've been looking into some aftermarket coated and machined pistons but the diesel shop I took it too is claiming that when these have problems like this, it is cheaper to buy a reman short block from Ford than to fix the one I got. Is this true? So far I have two quotes, $6500 for a reman and labor or $7500 to fix mine. If I remember right these are sleeved blocks so shouldn't I be able to take it to a machine shop and have it re-sleeved for a set of .20 pistons? I'm hoping they are wrong and I can get someone else to do it for less than that. Any advice would be helpful.
