  • Vibration when shifting

    2003 RCSB 2.2L 5 spd 190K miles

I have started getting a vibration when shifting into second and third gear. It started a week or so ago with the freezing temperatures. It would only do it when it was cold, once the drive line warmed up, it would go away. Today, I noticed that if I left it in second gear, and pressed the clutch to stop at stop signs, the vibration gets pretty bad. It doesn't seem to be speed dependent.

As I shift from first to second, once I move out of "neutral" and start to push into second gear, I can hear the vibration as well as feel it in the shifter. Once it sets into second, it will vibrate for a bit and then slowly stop. Shifting into third is the same way, however the vibration is not as bad.

I paid a little attention to it this morning. Noticed that if I left it in second and pressed the cluth, I got the rattle/grinding noise pretty bad. It sounded almost like the gears weren't meshing

Could be, would it start to work properly as the driveline warmed up?

Not yet, that has always been the plan. However, the plan and my financial ability to execute are two different things!
