  • Chrysler 2.7

A relatives wife is set on a Sebring or 300. Most have the 2.7 that was notorious for timing chain and water pump failures. Did Chrysler ever get the problem fixed on the later 2005-up 2.7s? My advice was to not buy a Chrysler product period but I just got that "look" from her.

If it is Chrysler and x.7 it's junk.

3.5L and 2.5L only. The 2.7L is quite possibly the worst engine ever made.

Those cars are fucking gross. She's also gonna be hard pressed to find any Chrysler product with a 2.7 that hasn't absorbed cigarette smoke and ass grease its whole life. They attract the trailer park crowd.

I agree on the 2.7 being one of if not the worst motor ( 4cyl Vega?) ever. I can't believe Chrysler got away with it for so long.

Well I lucked out (I guess) and she bought a 2007 Mustang V6 with 85,000 miles. At least I will not mind working on it. I hate front wheel drives with a passion (at least a far as repair). I did love my 2006 WRX however but my ex wife enjoys it now.

That's completely true. My '08 Dodge RCSB with the 3.7l couldn't haul its own weight. A slight grade, wind, or extra person would cause it to down shift...
Then there's an '05 RCSB Dodge down the road from me for $900, because it runs like sh!t, and has funky noises coming out of it. From what I've gathered, the rocker arms fall off on the 3.7ls. lol.

the 4.7 V8 and the 5.7 V8 are pretty darn good!

The 2.7 is crap because like mentioned above, it attracts the trailer park crowd and when not maintained, they cook off the oil and do nasty things to metal.

Figure in the water pipes that corrode and they are ticking time bombs!

wrong. I sell more 2.7, 4.7, and 5.7 remans than I used, usually because we cant get one to pass a compression or pressure test.

Not dismissing that there are many out there with tons of miles on them without issue, but they like to blow. Hell, my buddy bought one (4.7) at the auction, I told him not to do it before he bid, told him while he was bidding to stop, and then showed him the milky oil when we got it home. Junk is junk, and rolling the dice if you have one.

That and Dodge dealers still haven't figured out that their parts department can also be a profit center. Call 90% of them for an engine quote and they'll hit you with straight list for a "factory" engine. Nevermind that they can buy a reman from you for half the price, mark it up a little and get paid full labor to install it. Nope, they'd rather blow the customer out of the water and send them to an independent shop.
