  • GM 317 heads

What's they're value? Seen some go for $60 and some $200.

I now have 2 sets of 317s and trying to figure out what to do with them.

I do however need a gauge cluster w/ trans temp for an '04 GMC.

The 317s would be a good head for someone with LS1, LS2 or LS6 wanting to lower compression for forced induction. The combustion chamber size on the 317's are 71cc vs 64cc on 243 heads (LS6, LS2) or the 241 heads (LS1)were 67cc.

I would jump on LS1tech and put out a feeler. I don't think $200 would be unreasonable if they are in good shape. Scrape the combustion chamber side with a razor blade and brake clean the shit out of them to make them presentable

I'll just pay the $15 and get them cleaned at the machine shop.

I would like to trade them for a gauge cluster, are salvage yards known for doing trades?

Mike, is your cluster bad, or missing/not what you want. There is a guy in Haltom City that will rebuild one with all new heavy duty motors and the digital display for I believe $125.00. Dallas Cluster Repair, 682-365-3236 or Dallasclusterrepair.com

Mike's a Jew. I tried to recommend some other places, but he wants to pay like $10 for a nice working HD cluster

Nah I just want the transmission temp gauge. I got the tru cool 40,000 gvw cooler and with the higher stall converter and heavy foot I decided it would be best to keep an eye on the trans temps.

And my original one has 2 bad motors.

Depends on where you look, i just hold out until I find an unbeatable deal. I dont care for brand new parts normally, I rather someone else take the mark up hit. Old parts are proven good parts IMO.

I try to keep all my purchases ~ $100 lol

If i lived where you do i could do that too.

Thats the problem with me. Everyone thinks their 200k 5.3 is worth a 1000.00 bare engine.

Lol yeah my friend in Amarillo is having the same issue, his $150 5.3 turned into $400+. Kind of crazy, even their Craigslist prices a sky high. Same with Austin.

Cheap parts keeps me in the dfw!

Haha! I got you to pay more than that for a shitty t5 with bad synchros.

They can just redo your cluster and add the trans temp gauge. If you put another cluster in and the theft isn't turned off in the tune, it usually acts stupid. The truck should already be wired and everything for the extra gauge. I did the Escalade cluster in mine, little more expensive, but way better looking than just a plain HD.

I have access to hp tuners, is that something I can do in there?
