I agree with the explorer cam. I would also find a fox style gt-40/explorer/cobra intake before I would go with the edelbrock. You will get that low end torque you're looking for.

My 89 would knock down 28-30 hwy mpg stock long block, long tubes, and full up intake with 3.08's and 5 speed. My dad's Z28 had a blower on it with stock everything else and it would routinely get low 30's.

If I was looking for MPG's I would do an explorer cam, tubular gt40, 19's, t56 and a good tune. Bumping compression would be nice.

Seb, think about it like this: if you have to rev it to make power, it isnt going to be efficient down low. You want torque when you are cruising, so that you dont have to wind it up to get moving. You want to be able to keep it in 5th at 2k and just lean on the throttle to go up a hill or pass a car, not have to drop a gear.

I will look in to picking up a Explorer intake! Not really wanting to do a cam swap at this time with all the labor involved to swap one stock cam for another stock cam. But i agree 100% on going Explorer Intake. Hence why I have a Cobra intake now. But the 95 design with the bend sucks!

My only frame of reference is on a diesel, but I recall anywhere from 4-8mpg, depending on truck, rear gear ratio, trans, etc.

If you calculated it properly, I'd say it would be good for similar gains. You also have to look at how long it would take you to get a ROI.

This! My '12 gets 31 on the highway and makes 600 at the wheels.

Yeah, I actually think going up to a 3.55 or 3.73 gear will help, youre not in your good tq range.
Also look at putting light weight wheels like draglites and maybe consider upgrading the brakes to a lighter than stock pro street brake setup. Any rotational weight u can drop will help.

So this should be called the SN95-Eco..

Compression ratio and weight are your best friends in MPG.

Too high of (low number) gears will decrease mpg as stated when downshift/more throttle are required.

3.55, explorer cam and intake with good aluminum heads and tune will yield good results.

Am I reading this correct. Worried about gas mileage driving a v8 and modding it? If your worried about mileage have you considered another daily driver. I know someone with a vw diesel getting 600 miles to the tank.

                              Right. A $2000 4cyl POS will get 35+

if your're getting 27mpg on the highway, I wouldn't even wipe the fucking dust off of the dash...
