  • Dumb Wiring Question

Can't believe I have to ask, but...................... What happens if you run 2 separate 12V leads to one component? Will it still just have 12V and all will be well? Example: Inline fuel pump getting 12V from a relay. Now what if we send it 12V from an additional relay? 12V from 2 separate relays to one inline fuel pump?

Its still only getting 12V but you can increase the amount of amps it can pull depending on how it is wired.

I'm asking because I have a 255 inline pump that comes on at 2 psi via a grounded hobbs switch to a 12v relay. IN the event that hobbs switch or relay were to fail I would like another separate circuit set up the same way running to the pump. Each independent circuit will have an led light tapped in to the feed wire from the relay. If both are on then both relays are sending voltage. If one light goes out I get a heads up to figure out the issue and don't lose the pump. Catastrophic failure is thwarted.

No problem, will work well and last long time.

That will work just fine as long as a single relay is big enough, and it should be, to run the pump by itself.

Yeah it's just a GSL392(255 inline). I run a 190lph in both my front and rear gas tanks that both come on at 2#'s of boost. The inline 255 is further up and on the frame rail. It too comes on at 2#'s of boost. I have 2(190's) and 1(255) running under boost.

You'll need diodes in both of the feeds coming out of the relays. This is to keep from back feeding in the event of a failure on one circuit or the other. It's only important if you want your leds to give an accurate reading of the circuit that is powering it.

So the leads from the relay to the pump is 10ga. What size diode will I need for that?

Not a clue, I only know that you will need them installed other wise both leds will be lit any time either circuit is energized. Also I would think 14 gauge wire would be plenty to feed the pump, 12 gauge would be overkill in my opinion. The pump likely won't pull more than 7-10 amps continuous.
