  • Previous tuner / new tuner question

I bought a 08 Bullitt used, the car already had BBK long tubes, BBK off road X, and a SCT tune on it did not come with the tuner). Right off the bat it failed emissions (the rear o2's were turned off from the tune). I went ahead and bought a catted x, and I am planning on buying a tuner.

My questions are, will the computer take the new tunes from the handheld, with the old (previous tune) still on there? Will it be able to pass inspection with a tune on it (since the new tune will be programmed for cats)? also a concern of mine is, when you first go to install the tuner it saves the current tune as "stock", but my current tune is a custom tune from who knows where and what all the tune has.

I should add too, that my concern for the stock tune, is that if my car cant pass inspection next year with a tune on it (with o2's turned on) and the catted x I want to be able to make sure I can return to a true "stock" tune and pass inspection.

You can load a new tune but the problem you're going to run into is not having a stock tune if you ever need it.

I bought the car from a dealership here, but they got the car from Hawaii.

          Just build some MIL eliminators.

Is the check engine light on? I thought it would pass as long as it doesnt show check engine.

The eliminators will allow the computer to have the rear o2s switched on and keep the light from coming on by fooling it into thinking it has cats and they are working.

Seems odd i have several friends with cars with off road mid pipes and no issues getting an inspection to hear of.

Dealer will be able to get you a stock tune file for your car.

You might try this to see if it will help it to pass. I used this, and you have to follow it to the letter, and it got my '12 to pass with no cats.

              From DPS site:
For vehicles year model 2001 and newer, we allow one (1) non-continuous monitor to be Not Ready and still pass the test, but two (2) or more Not Ready's will cause the vehicle to fail.

The light wasnt on, but the 02's read "not ready" which is what Trick Pony is referring to.
I had MIL eliminators on my 03 with o/r x and never had an issue. But they dont make for 05+. I went ahead a just bought catted x pipe to take care of that side, but the worry now is will having a performance tune on it (with rear 02's on) affect the inspection in anyway? and how bad do I need the "stock" tune the new tuner is going to save on initial tune, be a true stock tune?

will I just be wasting money having Gearheads (since Travis said he can return computer to stock) or the dealership returning the computer to stock, and then installing new tuner and tunes?

another question/ thought is, should I just get the computer returned back to stock and leave for a while? Then when I have money again to buy a tuner, buy one then.
