  • Weird idle issue 2002 GT

Got an 02 GT 5spd that has a mild cam LT headers and CAI. Motor runs good and everything feels fine but when ever driving it it idles high.

Start car idles around 700 RPM. While driving the car wants to stay at 1500 RPM and will even accelerate without pushing the gas until it reaches it. Put the car in neutral and coast and the car drops to about 1500 RPM and stays there for 10-15 seconds (or until the car comes to a stand still it seems) then drops back down to 700. if you rev it it sticks at 1500 again then drops again.

If the car is in gear and you let off the gas it feels like it is still getting gas and after about 10 seconds you can feel the cars idle drop and it begins to slow down. (like when you use the engine to brake and downshift)

Hopefully that makes sense and I didnt ramble on to much.. Any ideas what would cause this? Had someone tell me it is the cam. but not sure.

This. My Mach 1 did the same thing.

      It's very easy to do.

Yeah, two 8mm bolts, some carburetor cleaner, and a Q tip.

Tried Cleaning and did not fix the issue. Decided to replace with a new one and still has the same issue.

            Try to relearn the idle.

Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.

Check everything mechanical like has been stated in this post - intake/vacuum leak specifically. Then give me a call and I'll get you fixed up
