  • 3550 on my 4.6

I had one on my 92 5.0. I have never put one behind a 4.6 motor. I know I will need the bell housing and what else? The 3550 is the 10 spline, my 3650 is 10 spline if I get the bell housing will the trans be fine? Is something different?

I don't think the 3550's have a way to hook the speedo up in the 4.6 cars, might be wrong though. Other than that, yeah, get the modular bellhousing, might have to work the crossmember mounting holes if it's the same as a TKO, make sure and measure from the driveshaft to the floorboard to make sure the driveshaft angle stays the same. My TKO mounting pad was higher than the T45 and it tipped the tail of the trans down, it needed spacers to keep the angles right.

ok well I have bee looking at it and I think if I was to do a setup its going to be a auto im tired of dealing with synchronizers, clutches, clutch cables. I can launch harder with a auto anyways. the TKO setup is nice if I could find one in my price range then I might have to try it. my tr3650 doesn't like high rpm's it came from a 01 cobra and im only turning it to 6000 so I think its the trans. TKO worth there money? like 1.40 60''?

TKOs are "notchy." If you don't like that for daily driving, avoid them. I fucking hated my 3650, but I'm happy with it now that a banged it at the track. It grinds into second if shifted at normal speeds, but it doesn't if you slam it

TKOs sometimes are hit/miss. Some hate, some love. Look into the different models, and choose the gears according to your needs, obviously.
Also, contact "thesource" on this board. He'll school you on transmission info. He can also hook you up with a built 3650.

ran a 3550 in my 96 cobra for a while, had to use the lakewood bellhousing and different driveshaft but the clutch was the same.

the mounts are different, at least on a cobra. gt's and cobra's have different crossmember mounting locations, it has to be moved up about 4"

You can get the speedo to work but you have to change some of the settings in the software for the computer. I know because I had one in my car a long time ago. But if you don't change the gear ratio etc. your speedo will not work at all.

In a 96 you have the machanical speedo but the 99 and up have the electronic speedo. So you have to change some things in the software to make it work.

I didn't think about the Speedo. I know that the 3550 I had in my lx was sick. I was hard on it and it took everything I threw at it. But I'm going to look into that. I think I know where to get that 3550 for cheap. I have been talking to alot of my buddies they really never had a problem with a 3650. So I'm going to ask around and see if that guy still wants to sell it kinda on the fence about it.

                    Is there a difference in a 2001 cobra 3650 and a gt 3650?
