Lightly seat both of the mixture screws and turn out 2.5 turns. Then with the truck warmed up good and at idle adjust each mixture screw until the highest\best idle is achieved, from there readjust your idle screw to the appropriate idle speed. You'll have to know the stock metering rod, metering spring, and jet #'s to make sure it's completely stock. As stated above, carbon can cause dieseling, as well as idle speed being too high, and Ignition timing being off. Check that the vacuum advance it adding timing when vacuum is applied. With the age of the HEI distributors, I find a lot of the diaphragms have deteriorated at this point and won't hold vacuum, make sure the weights are free in the distributor also.

I assume the Lokar Dipstick on the firewall you added for the transmission? Buddy of mine had an extended cab that body style many years ago. It had similar rust issues. He looked for quiet a while trying to find a decent donor/replacement cab.
Thank you for the information. I will pick up a bigger setup asap.

Actually, I kinda recall that they didnt make an extended cab long bed. The owner of a company I used to work for was bitching about not being able to get extended cabs with the long bed in an s10, and he had to buy regular cab trucks to get the extra bed space we needed.

And the long beds look really long on the s10's.

It is a shortbed, I know the rust is bad but I paid beans for it. I drive it everyday and I plan one day for a cab swap.

My attractions to the truck is the ext cab of it.

Is that not the handle to your trans dipstick where the yellow arrow is pointing?
