  • rocker arms falling off

I have a buddy with 302, and roller rockers. It has the crane cam lock nuts on arp studs. The problem is after we set the lash (new motor) then run the motor a random rocker arm will have fallen off. The nuts are getting about a 4-5 thread bite on the stud and the allen lock nut is engaging the stud as well... Are there any tricks or something that I don't know about to keeping them from backing the nut off?
    Thanks
    -Nick

I had that happen when I was in a hurry.

I had forgotten to go back and do another 1/8 or less turn to lock down the nut.

    Set the lash
    1/4-1/2 turn
    Screw down the Allen key
And another 1/8 or so until it tight turning both the nut AND Allen key.

If I add 1/4 to 1/2 turn on it my lash is going to be way off (solid lifter)

4 or 5 threads doesn't sound right. Are you sure pushrod length is correct. I'm pretty sure mine screwed on like 8-10 threads

          That does seem short.

Are they pushing through the threads or backing off?

you need to increase the level of dog shit that you tighten out of the allens

Can find find lash, turn back 1/8 turn. Set the Allen and and then tighten to set the lash?

They're backing off. Threads are ok

I've got the 3/8" rachet with a good allen bit on the end and have been cranking the shit out of it. I can see the stud distorting from the pressure. I'm about to loctite this shit together!(not really.)

Push rods? X2 or bad locks.. Shouldn't fall off.

Not sure I would trust just 4-5 threads to hold what should be 400+ lbs of spring pressure. I second checking pushrod length and if that is ok verify you have the correct studs.

Oh and to help getting them tight, tighten the nut down to proper lash then back off about 1/8 turn, tighten Allen nut then re tighten the larger nut back 1/8 turn. Lash should be fine and poly lock should be nice and tight.
