  • to all shop owners with air compressors

It's likely the most expensive cost of your shop is the air compressor and the electricity it uses to produce the compressed air.

Adopt this mindset to save a bundle a year, when you hear a air leak, think of money poring out on the ground. Even small air leaks can cost hundreds a year.
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.

I'm sure there are better ones than you find at harbor freight and northern tool.
I did a little research, Snap-on sells a mil spec one for $8.00 list. When buying one, look for the mil spec. I'm sure they are better made, o-rings, tolerances ect.

i called my NAPA store and told them to send the best fittings they had or to get some in, I shut off the air, changed out the end on the hose and guns , turned the air back on the new fittings leaked as bad or worse as the old ones. I cant find any that are worth a damn.

I installed galvanized pipe with blue teflon tape on each connection. Knock on wood, I have zero leaks.

I have found that 9 times out of 10 if I have tool leaking it is usually the male end on the tool. Our biggest problem is with the hose wearing out at the crimp by the connector and blowing it off every 6 months or so.

I remember growing up my Dad had one hose in his shop that lasted 20+ years without cracking/splitting at the coupler. Then, I buy a "Goodyear" rubber hose 6 months ago and it's already cracked up. It's never seen sunlight nor been abused. They just don't make them like they used to.

Yeah, none of my hoses/couplers are abused or anything and they give out every couple of years it seems like.

I do body work, so the compressor is ALWAYS running, when we leave at night we turn it off. But, there are occasional leaks that annoy the shit out of me.
