My 1 yr old autozone duracrap battery screwed me last nite and left me for dead in the middle of nowhere So i need a new one.

So why are optima batteries so popular all of a sudden? whats so good about them compared to every other battery? are they lighter then regular batteries?

My car isnt a daily driver, so sometimes it will sit for a long period of time. Can optima's hold there charge?

Any car that sits for a long period of time should be put on a battery maintainer regardless of battery type.

I think the big plus is the acid-free, spiral cell design. You can mount them anywhere, even upside down. I have heard accounts of people getting 10 years or more when used with a proper, non sulfating battery tender.

can you mount them in the trunk then, with no battery enclosure box since they are sealed gel cell?

Autozone's batteries are among the best, especially when you get into the Gold series. 3 year free replacement in Texas? I get a new one in each car about every 2 1/2 years.

You may check further into the Optima batteries, I recently read somewhere when I was researching deep-cycle batteries for the boat that the company was sold to another company and that the quality of the batteries has lessened.

Yes but the battery has to fail THEIR test.

I've been fucking with a Durashit battery I bought 1/10.

It worked for a few months, then started crapping out on me. (NOt a battery draw as my old battery that came with the car operated over a year with no issues.)

Took it to Autozone they said it tested ok and charged it up for me. Again.

It will be fine for another month then crap out again.

Then you still have a problem with your car. Autozone will also replace your battery free of charge within a 1,2 or 3 year period depending on what you bought, if it tests bad and afterwards is pro-rated. We use Autometer test equipment. If it tests good, it is what it is, and we charge on much better chargers than a normal customer has.

And for anyone's info, Interstate, Duralast, Optima etc. are all made by Johnson Controls...

Make sure they do a load test with the alternator too. If you don't trust the store, take it to another one. Your info. is in the system nationwide. Or you can take it to a shop and have them call the store.

If it takes a month for the battery to go, there might be some slight drain on it. Pullies on the car (may keep it from a full charge, especially on short trips), alarm system, audio, etc.? Half of the guys using the diagnostics at Autozone don't have a clue how to properly test batteries or alternators. Get a manager (gray shirt) involved next time.

AZ specs out their own batteries to Johnson Control, and they're damn good.

Definitely keep it on a battery charger if it sits, because if it drains, you may never be able to revive it like you can with some batteries.
