  • fuel tank overflow issue on my FOX

currently my coupe is in the deconstruction phase so I don't drive it. I do move it in and out of the garage and start it often just to hear it but I don't take it to the gas station for fuel. I refuel by means of a 2gal. fuel jug. last few times that I've refueled it I've noticed that it only takes about a gallon and then it begins to overflow back out of the fill neck. my gauge has always been accurate and it currently registers almost empty. car has a full Aeromotive sys.

    any ideas?

Sounds like the filler neck flap inside at the bottom may be stuck.

The fuel does eventually seep into the tank but I'm not sure how long it's taking as I've never bothered to stand there and watch it. Any thoughts on how to fix it?

Drop the tank, and look at the bottom of the fill neck. There will be a little flap there that is suppose to "prevent" people from being able to siphon fuel out. Sometimes they rust and get stuck thus preventing fuel flow into the tank.

Hmm, I knew the newer cars have this flap but never thought older cars did. I'll check into it. God I hate dropping the tank!
