My buddy is in the process of building a motor and we would like some feed back.

We are looking for around 500 rwhp,

    347 stroker, stock block
    Balanced eagle rotating assembly,
    11. To 1 je flat top pistons
    Mildly ported afr 185
    Vic jr intake
    750 carb

    C4 trans 4k stall

Which way would you guys go solid roller or hydraulic
And any suggestions on cam and spring kit.

You are going to be very disappointed, regardless of the cam. It's gonna take much better heads, slightly more compression and more rpm then a stock 302 block cam handle to reach those goals through a large stalled auto. With a t5, much better heads, a properly built short and large cam you might reach those goals. I broke 2 stock blocks with 450 rwhp na going around 72-7300 rpms.

584/592 lift cam 10 to 1 compression and little twisted wedge 170cc (old style) heads are the only differences in my combo. Oh and solid flat tappet here.

Never had it dynod but it runs good. I Only wind it up to 6300-6400 rpm.

If your going to spend the money to build an engine, do it once.

Stock 302 block + 500hp = do it again soon

You're going to put 320 to the wheels with a nice cam; 290 with some Cracker Jack bump stick... through that C4

Like everyone else says, 500rwhp/stock block, that's going to be one expensive pile of shit to have to clean up.

Its going to take that RPM to make 500 at the wheels with a NA 347.

As someone who just put together a N/A 347 it's very hard to make that through a C-4.
Im running 12.5:1 compression tfs 170 heads ported, ported tfs r intake, stage 3 tfs cam. 3,500 stall and I wasn't anywhere close to where I thought it would be.

Also the one thing I would do over is save up some more coin and get a Dart block.

Besides just getting 500hp out of a stock block na, what are you trying to accomplish time wise?

To be honest really i don't think he cares about horse power as much as a number.. He said he would be happy with 6.50s on the bottle!

Very doable. Especially in a light car.
