You can always go through it front to back and make sure the jets don't have some crap in them, make sure the accelerator pump is working and it's check valve isn't leaking. make sure the squirter nozzles are clean. it always helps to have the complete story.
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.

I ain't picking on you TanTan , I am just making the point that the carb parts don't need to be changed , just gone thru . If a carb works good when new and the combo doesn't change it should still work .

Ok, if its a 4160 Holley (imprinted 80457-7 / 1577) what rebuild kit do I need? They seem to range from $30-60. 37-119 is what I think I need but just want to confirm.

37-485 looks to have a few more power valves and so on but I read somewhere it was for a 4150...

                                Oook update:

Carb rebuilt with dumpys recommended trickit he linked above. After a little trial and error I got it done. Very cool experience. easy easy. Replaced the stock 6.5 PV with a 7.5 since my vacuum at idle and in neutral is a steat 15.5hg. The throttle response is crisp and smooth. No stumble when quick revving it. Only problem that remains is the hiccup it has when ur cruising and u punch the gas. It hiccups and then goes. (Hiccup then jerks forward)

I got frustrated when it would hiccup AND backfire thru carb. Dumpy told me to check vacuum advance on carb. It was shot. Replaced it and not it doesn't backfire but it still hiccups. Timing is set at 13BTDC. Ideas? Could be something outside of the carb now I guess? Its basically a new carb now.

(Cap, rotor, plugs, wires, vacuum advance, fuel filter, air filter) all a month old. Plugs gapped at .044.
