2007 Chevy Suburban Problems

So we have a 07 suburban and i'm about to just sell the piece of shit...If anyone has any insight or has had this issue before please help...


It has just under 140,xxx miles on it and the piece of shit just randomly dies under 20 mph while coasting..doesn't do it while cruising down the highway or anything, just when you let off under 20..She said it died 3 times the other day pulling out of a parking spot..I put new plugs in it not to long ago, seemed to help for like a day..

Could it be the fuel pump/filter? Could it be the ignition switch? Any opinions are welcome.. Thanks in advance guys...I just don't want to take it to a dealership and have it diagnosed when I can just do it...

Edit: It's the 5.3 if that matters at all..

Sounds like the throttle body is acting up, those don't use a IAC, it actually opens the throttle body more to keep it idling.

Do you have an OBDII scanner and is the check engine light on? How is the idle?

If you want to try another throttle body I have one I would let go of cheap.

First
Put fuel gauge on it and test.(pressure should be at 50-60 watch to see if it drops off really fast) slow is normal
Any codes?
Put a scanner on it and do a live data test on it and see what's going on with the TB and MAF o2 sensors see if the o2s are lazy or fast.
If you ever took off the TB there will need to be a relearn done (typically but not always)
Worse hot or cold (cold,it can be an intake leak)

Or shoot throttle body with carb cleaner and a soft brush on throttle plate and maybe clean mass air sensor while your there. Go for a drive to get all the stuff you cleaned out the throttle body.

Already cleaned the mass air, will give the throttle body a shot tomorrow. I don't have a scanner but can't I borrow one from like Oreilly's or autozone? It has a service light so I need to have it pulled and go from there..The idle is ok it's only when putting it in gear and it drops from idle is when it dies..Or that's what she told me..I'll be home to drive it tomorrow..

Yes autozone will pull the codes for you. I wouldnt even waste your time cleaning anything else until you know what the deal is.

Our 05 GMC would die after getting of a high rpm situation like getting off the freeway or a rapid stops and it was the throttle position sensor.

IF IT HAS DRIVE BY WIRE (NON THROTTLE CABLE THROTTLE BODY). DO NOT LEAVE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION WHILE CLEANING IT, DO NOT PUT YOUR FINGERS IN THERE WITH THE KEY ON, DO NOT TRY TO HAVE SOMEONE HOLD THE ACCELERATOR DOWN DO YOU CAN CLEAN IT.

The use a very strong high torque motor. There is the potential to damage or remove fingers in you aren't careful. It's best to put the keys in your pocket to avoid potential accidents.

That said. Rather than spraying the throttle body with cleaner and doing the tooth brush method. It's best to spray it onto a rag or heavy paper towel and use that to clean it. Excess solvents can weep through the throttle shaft bore and damage the sensor and motor drive (this is what warnings we get in our tech classes).

Also if you service the throttle body, remove the battery cable for 10 minutes to clear the computers idle learn memory. If not you will possibly end up with a very high idle.

So I finally got a chance to work on it today..I took it to autozone first and had them pull the code which was P0121 (throttle position sensor) and I was reading online about trying to clean the throttle body if it wasnt the tps that should fix the problem. It didn't and gave me the high idle..

So I went ahead and bought the throttle body sense it and the sensor come as one and threw it on. Seems to be better but it still has the high idle. I read online that you could either take it in to do the "re-learn" or just drive it and after a few hundred miles it would re-learn itself.

Next question is, why would the check engine light still be on? Is there another problem or was it not the throttle position sensor all together? Thanks for any input!

Code for unexpected high idle might be why the light is still on.

To do a re-learn. Get it up to operating temp, shut it off and disconnect the negative battery cable for a minute or two. Reconnect cable and start the vehicle, let it idle for 3 minutes with a/c off. Shut it off for one minute and start it and let it idle for 3 more minutes. Shut it off again for one more minute and you should be good to go.

I had to do this last night to my tahoe, worked like a champ

DID YOU READ THE LAST PART OF MY PREVIOUS RESPONSE.

I said to remove the battery cable to clear the idle learn memory after cleaning the throttle body OTHERWISE you would experience a high idle problem. You probably spent the money on a throttle body you didn't need.
