  • 2003 Mach 1 starting issue, randomly cranks with out starting

2003 Mach 1, 49k, with a catback and K&N filter only. I've searched but nothing really falls into the category of my issue. My car starts fine but it sporadically has issues. Sometimes when I turn the key the car starts up immediately. Like it didn't even crank, just boom, like it's getting ahead of its self (best way I could describe it). When it does this the crank sounds kind of high pitched. Then other times it will crank and crank and will not turn over, I'll try again then it will start and putter a little bit, then it's fine. That has only happened maybe 2 or 3 times. After that the car will start perfectly normal. Basically it's not a consistent ongoing issue but I would like to see if anyone has any ideas before I take it to the shop.

When was the last time you replaced the fuel filter?

I have not changed out the fuel filter since my ownership. Going to replace that when I change my oil here in the next week. I'll have my battery/alt and starter checked as well. If the problem persists I will look into the crank position sensor. Thanks guys!

My GT sporadically does that, I just cycle the key a couple times to get the fuel system primed. I assume that the pprv ( basically a check valve in the tank to keep fuel from draining back) is sticking open.

That might be what it is. It has started normal for weeks now.
