trailer tires, need yalls advice on them

what tires do yall run on your trailer. Also what of big of a trailer do you have?

I had a blow out this morning on mine and was looking at other options.

trailer is at 22 foot enclosed haulmark. Also at he time it had my car in there. What really sucked was that my jack was not strong enough to lift up the trailer with the car in it. So I had to pull the car out. Looked like I was about to make a street test pass lol.

So what tires do you like and not like for your trailer?

I use light truck tires, 6 ply, I THINK, would have to go look. Some of the tracks I go to have just gravel roads and I worry about that.

18 foot steel open car hauler with winch, tire rack. Around 2800 lbs with out the race car.

Same issue going to Oakhill years ago with the jack. Bought a Big bottle jack after checking if it would fit with 2 flats on one side.

Get some 8-10 ply trailer tires. LT tires are not made for the twisting of a double axled trailer when you have to crank it in a tight spot. Ya they work, but a trailer tire is better in the long run

would help if you listed a tire size (15 or 16") but as KTM said 8-10 ply. Most of the 15's are going to be offered in a 6 or 8 ply and the 16's will be offered in a 8 or 10 ply. The extra side wall strength in the trailer tire will help as will keeping them properly inflated. A 10 ply tire will have a max inflation of 80 psi. That doesn't mean you need to keep 80 in it, but with a big enclosed and a car loaded I'd guess in your situation 65-75 psi would be where you'd want to run.

Nothing sucks worse than a trailer tire shedding the tread, tearing up trailer fender at 1:30 am heading to track just so you can park in a decent spot at a National event.

Used cheap take off's on my 16 foot open flat bed with a 2900 lb car until I learned that lesson (it took 6 years).

The 24' enclosed Wells Cargo got basically trailer tires Northern sold. I did shed a few treads, but that was my fault for leaving them on too long.

My uncle finally learned his lesson trying to use car tires on his tandem axle boat trailer. He must have went through 3 sets before he finally took my advice and bought some trailer tires.

Trust me. Go with 10 ply minimum. Hauled bobcat on my 16 ft trailer 8 lug axles. The lt tires sucked and did not last. The trailer tires 10 ply lasted and never blew up. Just make sure they have the correct psi. You would probably need 7.00-15.

Like I said, a size would help. 15's typically are found in 6 and 8 ply, 16's in 8 and 10 ply.

trailer tires, have the trailer weighed with the car inside just to make sure you have the right load rating. Also, make sure the hitch has the trailer level when going down the road, it's easy to have it putting too much load on the front or back axle.

Carry two spares, carry some two x sixes to stack up and drive the trailer up on to avoid jacking if possible. They make a cool plastic thing if you are a balla.
I get the E rated trailer tires from discount. Worth it.



On the eastbound side of twenty about 5 am on the way back to dfw from Midland. This is when I learned to carry two spares. Amazing how fast a rim gets wrecked. I got to pull the drum to get the steel belts out of the brakes. It was fun(not).

Check your tire pressures before each trip and every morning on a journey. Also hit the lug nuts each morning and grease the axles if you have the kind that take it in the center. Yes I lost a wheel once. Now I am religious with my pretrip.

Inspect your tires any time you stop. This got changed in a dq parking lot instead of in the side of the road.
It paid to stop for ice cream.
