  • Car is popping Detonating

Started my car today for the first time since this cold weather has moved in and the car would hardly idle without dying and when it would start to idle it popped & it sounded really deep in the motor when it popped. Like detonation when it popped. I shut the car off. Car will still start. But dont want to run the car till I figure out why its doing this. Im hoping its just cause its been really cold these past few weeks & it just hasnt been started

    Mods are as follows

    Tuned on Mass Air
    TFS Heads
    Fast 90/90
    42lb injectors
    Vengance Vinticator Cam
    Auto

    How old is the gas?

    What's your fuel pressure doing?

I just put in gas right before the cold weather moved in. But the car hasnt been driven in over 3 years. But I do start it once a month. Thats why Im confused.

I was thinking maybe cause its tuned for Mas Air that the tune isnt giving it enough fuel. It almost sounds like its not running on all 8 cylinders

        What year is your car?

When you say you put in gas just before the cold weather, does that mean in early December or this last go of it?

When was the last time you cranked up the car and how long did you let it run?

When does it start popping? What rpm?

possible blown head gasket, causing the compression to go from one cylinder back up through the intake and causing that deep popping sound..Thats exactly what my old stang did

But it could be just a cold motor, our 2007 dodge work truck does it every now and then when its really cold but stops doing it after 30sec or so and then runs fine

The car has a blown trans & it has been this way for the past 3 years. Car is a 2000 LS1 with Heads & Cam & Intake, For the past 3 years I just have gone out once a month & started it & let it run for 10 mins every month for the past 3 years

I just put gas in it 2 weeks ago & that was the last time it was started. It ran good & would rev out smooth. But today I pulled it out to start it & it didnt sound right from the get go. Like it wasnt firing on all 8 cylinders

Car idles right at 1000 rpms. But would hardly idle at all without dying & would rev either when I gave it gas

I pray its not a blown Head gasket!

Before you get too worried about that head gasket, find out what your fuel pressure is doing.

I can't recall if your car is new enough, but if the ethanol gas sits too long in a vehicle that was not designed for it, then it might have eaten up the short piece of rubber that goes from the pump to the line.

I had a mustang that did this. However, the previous owner ran it like that and severely leaned it out for far too long.

I seriously hope that these last few cold snaps didn't hurt you motor.

I just dont understand why the cold could hurt the motor.

If you had straight water in the motor instead of antifreeze, then it would definitely cause a problem.

                          Yep.

I'm hoping you're having fuel issues.
