  • ford brand 8.8 gear setup

Ford brand gears for 8.8's all use the same pinion setup number ( different from any other gear vendor, they all have the depth stamped on the gear set )
Ford measures each housing and uses a pinion shim that matches that housing. What is the range people have found for that shim. Mine uses a .010. just wondering what the variance is housing to housing.

.010 is SHALLOW in my experience, usually a lot more than that

.010 is what came in mine from the factory

I've just reused the .010 through 4 svo gear sets over 16 years. after 4 years of racing, only a 4.10 set finally broke 1 tooth off, ( the tooth landed on the ledge above the pinion and never went through the gears) I've gone back and forth between 4.10's , 3.73 and 3.55's through using c-4's and glides 1/8 and 1/4 mile. with 302's and 351w's. it's always quiet.

I wont say its not correct just not the norm. It seems they change throughout the years. The mid 90s,96 ish to be specific, are a couple of the deepest ive ever set. That may be purely coincidence..

The last few I did were a good bit more than that but they weren't anything special just factory 3.55's in a Crown Vic PI.
