  • Chevy 4L60e repair

I have a co-worker that has likely busted the sun shell on his 4L60e 4x4 tranny.

When mine did this a 4 years back, I was able to find a GM tech from some car forums that did tranny side work, he was near Burleson. I've lost the number.

Anyone know this fellow and have his number?

damn what's he using only a paper/rubber kit and only replacing what is burned up? converter, jr kit, no yoyo, master kit, band, beast sunshell, filter, bushing kit and washer kit if needed and new sprags damn near cost that much.

I do not like the beast sunshell.

I got in touch with a guy Myk, in Garland that does rebuilds in his garage he converted to a shop. I was able to just swap mine out with one he had already rebuilt but if you can get the old trans out take it out to him and I'm sure he can build it for ya.

Cost me $550 and he gave me a year warranty. He'll advertise on craigslist once in a while and was recommended to me by Crash here on the board.

IMO all 700R4's/4L60E's need new sprags, the dual cage I bought last Friday was damn near 50 bucks. You can bet he aint putting a 50 dollar sprag in a 500 dollar rebuild. My guess is he buys a lot of low millage cores and uses a lot of used parts, which is not necessarily a bad thing if you know that is what you are getting.

I don't know the guy personally, I've met him and been to his shop/ home. he has had a ad in Craigslist for at least 5 years. He lives in my town.
                All he does is 4L60's
                This is his warranty---

Our transmission is warrantied for 90 days. If there is a problem, we will rebuild the unit again at no cost to the customer... not charging for parts or saying the failure was due to incorrect installation, abuse or problems with the drive train control system in the vehicle.

All units are fully rebuilt and road tested using a Tran X or Schaffer Shifter to ensure proper operation .

This goes along with what I said. He is buying low millage cores/units and taking all the good stuff and building his trannys with them. NOTHING wrong with doing that if the buyer understands this is what they are getting. Back when I worked at a transmission wholesaler we did this too, but it was mostly done for car lots and shops that worked for car lots.

When I had my car lot in Burleson, I used this guy a few times. Only had to warranty one out of about 10. I personally know of one that he rebuilt that has over 50k miles since he rebuilt it. Hes a good dude, I'd use him again if I had to

The Sonnax Smartshell is a very nice product. I like the Delco shell with the hardened splines for anything from stock to around 450hp. Over that I use the Sonnax.
